Hey there, welcome to the second lecture on computer education. Today we treat a new topic called Computer Devices.

The Modern Computer was develop on a natural progression from the early calculating stage their are types of calculating devices;

19th Century Devices

1. ABACUS : This is the easiest calculating device known to have been use as far back as 500 BC. It is a calculating device made of coloured beads and arranged in a line of wires in a frame. The first line to right counted the unit the beads on the second, third and fourth counted tons hundreds and thousands. Addition and subtraction are performed on this device. 

2. SLIDE Rule : This is a calculating device in which a cursor is moved up and down in various scales to program multiplication and division using principles of logarithms. 

3. NAPIERS Bones : After Abacus, the result developement came in 1617 when John Napier invented a device called John Napier Bones. A set of eleven rods with 4 slides each which was used as a multiplication tools this rods were made from bones. 

4. PASCAL'S Calculators : In 1642,Blaize Pascal a French mathematician invented the part mechanical calculating machine which successfully performed both addition and subtraction. This device had many techniques that is similar of the present day computers, numbers are been entered on dial that were on the front of the machine.

7. CHARLES BABBAGE'S : In 1822, Charles Babbage an English man produce a machine of mathematical method called difference engine, this machine was design to calculate and print mathematical table. In 1834, he designed another machine called [Analytical Engine] which was to and in complicating calculations. This design of the machine took much after jacquard invention and also incorporated many features present in modern computers. This makes the analytical engine to be quite close in concept to the modern day computer by having components such as input devices storage, memory, arithmetic, output and control unit. Since then and till now, CHARLES BABBAGE is referred to as the father of computers. 

8. LADY ADA LOCELACE : Improved on Charles Babbage analytical engine and wrote the first computer program. 

20th Century Computing Devices

Some of the 20th century computing devices are ;

➡️Harvard Mark 1 : Solution to different equation. 

➡️Eniac : Use high speed vacuum tubes to do calculation. 

➡️Univac : First commercial computer to use vacuum tubes. 

➡️Desktop Pc : known as Personal computer, they are small, relatively in expensive computers that are designed for individuals. 

➡️Palmtop or Handheld Computer : They are small, light weight computers that are designed to be operated while by hand a form a desk or table top. 

➡️Laptop Computer : these are portable computers that usually feature integral keyboards and monitors.
